Raised in Silverwater, went to work not completing grade 8.  He didn’t enjoy writing but always had a notepad in his front shirt pocket to mark down part and phone numbers and everything else he was figuring out.  His math skills were exceptional, knowing in his head exactly what his bank balance was and what expenses where coming due.  His reading was a memory maker for all the grands, sitting on his knee while he put lots of fun into making story books come alive.  After the many multiple times reading the same book he would change things just to get a rise out of the listening kid.  Three Little Pigs and Bambi were recent favourites.
Dad worked at both Inco and Dennison mines but his true love was logging, buying the logging license in the mid 80's. In the early 90's dad got GBS, which tested his grit, determination and perseverance.
At this time he came to the conclusion that he enjoyed working more than fishing and other typical pleasurable pursuits.  Dad’s pleasures were, scheming, family pot lucks, vacations and new vehicles.  Dad enjoyed his family and made it evident that we all were special to him.
Mom worked along side Dad on the farm, driving log truck, and every other task he tackled.
Dad’s strongest example was his relationship with God.  There was never a question as to were we would be or what we would be doing on Wednesday evening or Sunday morning.  Dad would be found in the morning before going to work and before going to bed, reading his bible, and privately on his knees in the secret place before God.
Dad had his humour to the end.  He would quirk a grin and chuckle even after he couldn’t talk.  He loved bratty wit and giving each other a hard time.

We will have a gathering to share our memories and honour the life of Dad at a later date, but for now we will lay him to rest beside Bob in Massey Grandview Cemetery.

A private funeral at Island Funeral Home on Friday.
“Sweet is the rest that comes with close of day, when life departs, the spirit flies away....”

Gert and Family: Been many years since I have been around your family. It doesn't seem so long, remember you folk with fond memories. A lot of fond memories going to meeting at Massey from Iron Bridge. We knew that Evan's time here on earth was spent with a strong faith in God. Lois had told me Evan wasn't well, you will all miss him but with time God heals the heart and he gives memory, that we can remember our loved ones. Cindy Lynn had a message from Faye tonight so was glad she let us know. We think of Faye so far but seems Gloria has given a way for them to be part of the service. Thinking of you all

Gertrude and Family, our thoughts are with all of you at this time.

Evan always had such a infectious smile, kind nature and cheerful way about him. Most importantly he was a wonderful example during our childhood. He was a loving Granddad and always seemed to have a lap full of giggling kids. I'll never forget his handshakes, smiles and teasing after meeting together.

Hugs to you all, wishing we could be there.

We are so sorry to hear about your loss and wish to extend our greatest sympathy.
Evan leaves us with nothing but fond memories. His heart was filled with kindness and love and his faith guided him throughout his life making him the man he was. While the present times do not allow for the physical gathering of a celebration of life our thoughts remain with you. We feel blessed to have been part of your family throughout the years. Do not hesitate to call should you ever need anything. Take comfort and strength in the fact that he is no longer suffering and that he is now looking down, proudly smiling upon his family.
