It is with great sadness our family announces the peaceful passing of Gerald (Jiggs) Elliott on April 12th, 2017( his predeceased grandson Brent Wade’s 40th birthday). He attained his greatest wishes to never go to the nursing home, avoid hospitalization, be with his loving wife until the end and die in his own home. He was 89 and still living in their own home.  He is missed profoundly by his wife Audrey (Merrylees) of 69 ½ years, his son Larry, daughters Joanne Wade and Bonnie Aelick ( Calvin), grandchildren Jason Elliott(Jodie), Brian Elliott (Lee), Amanda Elliott ( Chris Laderoute) and their children Tyler and Launa, Drew Aelick, Mark Aelick ( April) and their children Landon, Sawyer, Hudson, and Cole Chisholm, Kurtis Aelick (Gloria) and their children Violet, Griffin and Roslyn,
Laura Wade-Collins(Scott) and their children Jaida and Chase, and Chrissy Wade (Aaron Peltier).
He will be greatly missed by his surviving sisters Marie McIntyre (Don predeceased)  Connie Pinand ( Chuck predeceased) and Judy Hyatt.( Rod predeceased),  Predeceased by his parents Art and Edna Elliott, his brother Freddie and wife Daisy, his sister Marlene Pringle and husband Glen, his sister Freda Farquhar and husband John.
He will be sadly missed by the Merrylees family and the many other surviving Elliott relatives.
He was born in Gore Bay, raised in Kagawong and moved to Little Current in 1948. His father owned A F Elliott’s  & Sons Dodge and Desoto Dealer and Service in Kagawong where the Chocolate Factory now exists. For 40 plus years he ran the White Rose service station in Little Current , later the Shell where Hilltop Shell now exists and in 1954 built the Elliott’s motel  now the Hawberry. He enjoyed many family outings when younger, taking us hunting, boating, fishing and on picnics. His greatest delight in his latter years was still touring the Island and telling the history of the different places. He loved to be up at Maple Point, visit with friends, loved to talk to people, and I am certain he will long be remembered for his stories, some probably a little fabricated. He loved his grandchildren and truly they made his day when everyone came together for special occasions. He was on Council for a number of years and a Lion member in years gone by.
We wish to thank the Home Care staff for the great care they provided, both Nursing, Personal Care, (especially Sandra Mc Murray) and O.T. Without their assistance and cooperation working as a team over this last year he may not have been able to stay at home.
I also wish to thank all the many caring friends and family who have dropped in to visit mom, made calls to her and brought food to us. It is your loving heart and kindness that has helped us cope with this great loss. Although we knew he was failing, one is never ready for death and it’s subsequent feeling of loss and emptiness.
A big thank you for the friendly and comforting  assistance and guidance of Tony of Island Funeral Home.

There will be a Celebration of his Life on Saturday April 22 starting at 2:30 PM at the Sheguiandah Seniors Hall, burial of Ashes around 3:30 PM. presided over by Father Aidan of our Holy Trinity Anglican Church. Family and friends are invited to drop in. Anyone wishing to join us for a potluck dinner at the Hall and story sharing starting around 5:00PM are invited to bring potluck.

My sincerest condolences in your loss. I remember talking with Jiggs on many occasions at Joanne's place and listening to his many very interesting and informative "island "stories. It matters little that this was expected, it is a very hard time for you, the family to endure. Keep remembering the many memories that he has left you with and that will give you the strength you need now and in the coming days. He will always be with you in your heart.
