In Loving Memory of
Yvonne Elizabeth MacKay
May 22, 1931 - November 27, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Yvonne MacKay on November 27, 2024
at her home in Kagawong, Ontario.
Yvonne was born in Weston, Ontario on May 22, 1931 to Rose and Ernest Lunnon.
She grew up with sisters Gladys, Doris, and Reeta who are all predeceased.
Yvonne went to school and started her career in Weston before meeting the love of her life (William) Bill MacKay and married on May 12, 1956. They went on to raise 3 children in their home in Etobicoke. They lived a wonderful, adventurous life together for more than 60 years prior to Bill’s passing in August 2017.
Yvonne and Bill enjoyed more than 25 years at their hobby farm in Bewdley, Ontario. They shared the farm with their best friends Blenus and Audrey and hosted countless dinners, campfires, tennis tournaments, and Christian fellowship with friends and family.
In April 2014, Yvonne and Bill decided to move from their home of more than 50 years to be with their son Brad and his family in Kagawong, where they were immediately embraced by their new community and their treasured circle of friends.
Manitoulin Island was not an unfamiliar destination for Yvonne and Bill as they had been visiting with their family since the 1970’s, staying in the home of their long time friends Bill and Eileen Sloan.
Being a strong woman of faith, Yvonne began every day with her daily devotional and ended every day with prayers for her beloved family and friends.
Yvonne was a pillar of strength, support, and endless love. She with be sadly missed by her children, Marlene (Steve) Chumak, Brenda (Jim) Bushey, Brad (Chrisanne) MacKay,
her grandchildren, Tyler, Devon (Bobbi), Colin, Julia (Chad), Miranda, and Lauren (Caleb)
and her beautiful great grandsons, Xander, Barrett, and Isaac.
A visitation to honour Yvonne’s life will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Island Funeral Home, 36 Worthington Street, Little Current, Ontario P0P 1K0. The interment will take place in Etobicoke in the Spring of 2025.
In lieu of flowers and in honour of Yvonne’s beloved little companion Tasha, donations may be made to Manitoulin Pet Rescue, P.O Box 119, Mindemoya, ON P0P 1S0 or manitoulinpetrescue@gmail.com.
