In Loving Memory of
Stephanie Lynn Peltier
January 4, 1973 - April 28, 2025
It is with profound sadness and deep love that we share that Stephanie Lynn Peltier, traditionally known as Niwijiwaakikwe, of the Waawaashkesh Ndodem, a loving partner, daughter, sister, mother, auntie, niece, cousin and loving friend to all, began her journey to the spirit world on Monday, April 28, 2025, in Ottawa, Ontario, surrounded by family and loved ones. Stephanie was a remarkable Anishinaabe Kwe, a source of strength and joy for her girls. She embodied the teachings of our ancestors. She lived with humility, respect, courage and love. She gave freely without expectation. She stood firmly for what was right, guided by her deep cultural values and her immense strength as a mother, partner and community member. To be loved by Stephanie was to be deeply cherished - and we know she carried so much love for all those she connected with in this life.
Stephanie was a beacon of light - a gentle yet powerful force who lived each day with kindness, integrity and unwavering pride in being an Anishinaabe Kwe. She had the rare gift of making everyone feel seen, heard and valued - whether you were family, friend or stranger. Her presence made everything better. Her hands were healing, her words comforting,
her laughter - as well as her sense of humour - was contagious and her love limitless.
She would not just walk across a room, she would dance across the room, emulating her Auntie Sophie'iba.
Stephanie's mother (Marita) passed on her sewing skills to Stephanie, as did her Aunt Teresa'iba (Peltier) Macfarlane. Her legacy is worn with pride by many on Turtle Island at Pow Wows, gatherings and ceremonies. She was very close with her father, Stanley, who talked to her about our traditional ways.
Stephanie has passed on to the spirit world, her spirit will forever guide her family. She leaves behind her daughters Naomi, Autumn, Ciara and son Nimkiiode Ryder-ba (predeceased), her loving partner Lee Cote (daughters Amber and Emmi), who from the first day they met, knew that they were meant for each other - and their very first kiss meant the world. Stephanie also leaves behind her father Stanley, mother Marita-ba (predeceased), brothers Kirk (children Ashton, Dawson, April and Julianne), Douglas and Vincent, She was also "mom" to many other nieces, nephews and extended friends and family.
