It is with deep sadness that the family of Marcel Gauthier announces his passing on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the age of 80.

Marcel was born on February 28, 1946, near River Valley, Ontario. He later made Manitoulin Island his home, and Little Current became the community he loved and proudly served throughout his life.

Beloved husband of Wendy.

Marcel was a devoted father to Todd (Karen), Chris (Kristina), and Michelle (Blair Wyllie).

He was a proud and loving grandfather to Brett (Haley), Garret (Kaylee), Aiden (Grace), Rachael (Kane), Whittier, Keaton (Annie), Leighton and Ava

and great grandfather to Clark, Gwen and Georgia.

Marcel also leaves behind Paula Fields, who was an important part of his life.

Marcel began his working life with Ontario Hydro before pursuing a career in education. As an elementary school teacher in Little Current, he positively influenced the lives of countless students and families. A strong believer in giving back, Marcel was actively involved in many organizations that helped shape and strengthen the community he loved.

He was a dedicated member of the Little Current Lions Club, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 177, the Little Current Fish and Game Club, and the Little Current Curling Club. He also served for many years as a councillor for the Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands - NEMI, where he worked on behalf of residents.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Manitoulin Centennial Manor, which became Marcel’s home during his final months. Their compassion, kindness, and exceptional care brought comfort and dignity to Marcel and his family during a difficult time.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Marcel‘s life at a Celebration of Life
to be held at the Little Current Legion
on July 25, 2026.
