Lillian Peltier Obituary

In Loving Memory of
Lillian (Noella Mary) Peltier
April 3, 1938 - July 8, 2024

Lillian was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Betty Peltier (Lyza Jane McGregor);
her son Ted Peltier,
her brother Herman (Marg),
her sister Loretta Peltier (Leo)
and nieces Rosemary and Caryn.

She is survived by her nieces Sharlene MacDonald, Cindy Peltier, Janice Peltier,
her nephew Brendan Peltier,
her great nieces and nephews
and reclaimed daughter Cindy Peltier (Kevin Printup).
She will be missed by her grandsons James, Lawrence and William
as well as her grand-doggies Bear and Moose.

Lillian grew up here on Manitoulin Island in Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve at Cedar Swamp and Buzwah. She attended residential school in Spanish, St. Joe's School and attended teacher's college in North Bay.

Lillian craved adventure, so in 1963 she traveled to Chicago where she gained experience working at various places, including the Union Linen Supply Company and the Salvation Army where she worked as a secretary. Although she never married, Chicago was where she met Dean Rhodes, the love of her life. She, along with Dean, returned home every summer during powwow season to visit family and friends and reconnect with her homeland. During their visits they stayed at Cedar Swamp, in Manitowaning at Herman's, at Silver Birches in Honora Bay and at her house in Wikwemikong, just down the hill from grandma's.

While Lillian was a cat person, when she was home she adopted the neighbourhood dogs, giving them food to eat, a roof over their heads and care and comfort when they were lonely. She took special care of one specific dog named "Spot". When asked why he was named Spot she said, "Because he had a black spot over his eye".

We wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the Little Current Hospital. Also chi-meegwetch to Linda Trudeau and Kim Genereaux for taking care of Lillian during these last few years.

Lillian's celebration of life will be held
on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm
