July 4, 1960 - June 22, 2023

Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, Ontario Canada

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jerome George Kanasawe, who departed peacefully on June 22, 2023 in the comfort of his home.

Born on July 4, 1960, in Little Current, Jerome lived a remarkable life that touched the hearts and souls of many. He was the youngest of 12 children,
son of the late Georgina Kanasawe (nee Atchitawens) and the late Carl Kanasawe.

Beloved brother to Ursula-baa, James-baa (Jessie-baa), Jeanette (Leonard-baa), Mildred-baa (Stanely-baa), Richard-baa, Thomas (Dale-baa), Bruno, Monica (Hubert-baa), Ben (Darlene),
Farrell and his twin Agnes.

Jerome was a cherished uncle, great uncle, great great, uncle, cousin, friend and an exceptional member of the Wikwemikong community. His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt
by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jerome's unwavering dedication to his passions and pursuits made a lasting impact on those around him.
He was known for his love of the outdoors, walking and riding his bike, as most days you would count on seeing him on Wikwemikong Way in the heart of our community.
He had a special wave or gesture with those whom he liked to chat and joke around with.

Jerome was a participant in the Special Olympics in the early 1990’s as a Speed Skater and did so well that he brought back a medal.
Then in 2019, as a 5-pin bowler and a Track & Field competitor. He also got the opportunity to run with the torch.
Jerome approached life with gentleness and kindness, inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.

Beyond his accomplishments, Jerome Kanasawe will be remembered for his extraordinary character.
He possessed a genuine warmth and compassion that touched the lives of everyone he encountered.
His infectious smile, kind words, and generous spirit brightened even the darkest of days.

In addition to his family, Jerome Kanasawe leaves behind a vast network of friends and community members,
all of whom were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and gentle nature. He had an innate ability to connect with people from all walks of life,
offering guidance, encouragement, and a shoulder to lean on when needed.

During this time of mourning, let us remember the incredible legacy Jerome leaves behind.
Though his physical presence may be gone, his spirit and the memories shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved and admired him.
