Jane Palmer Obituary

In Loving Memory of
Jane Anne Palmer
August 19, 1935 - May 1, 2025

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Jane Anne Palmer, who left us peacefully at the age of 89. A beloved sister, aunt, friend, teacher and community member, Jane’s presence touched many lives, especially on Manitoulin Island.

Jane is lovingly remembered by her brother Frank,
her niece Allison and her nephew Jeff.

Her heart and soul were deeply rooted in Mindemoya, where she embraced island life with enthusiasm, creativity and generosity. Her first experiences on Treasure Island in the 1950's led to a lifelong bond with the region, and when the Palmer family settled at Quiddler’s Quay, Jane became a central figure in the cherished Lois Lane community, alongside the Cooper, Peever and Bond families.

A dedicated educator, Jane devoted her life to nurturing the minds and spirits of young learners as a primary teacher and librarian in Toronto. Her passion for education and children were everlasting and she found immense joy in guiding their growth and celebrated every milestone in their development.

Jane was also a gifted artist and communicator. Her creative talents found expression through photography, sketching, painting, knitting and crocheting. A lifelong reader and writer, she valued meaningful correspondence and introspective writing, always with a thoughtful turn of phrase.

Philanthropy was another cornerstone of Jane’s life. Her quiet generosity benefitted countless individuals and organizations, leaving a legacy of kindness that will not be forgotten. Jane will be remembered not only for the life she lived, but for the lives she touched. Her spirit remains woven into the community she helped create, and she will be fondly remembered always.

The family extends a special thank you to Doug Smith and the skilled tradesmen who ensured that Jane’s beloved cottage remained a sanctuary for her through the years. And to Sue Cumini, a true friend and care giver who brought so much love and joy to Jane during these final chapters of life. Finally, the family has a deep sense of gratitude to all of Jane’s community, her friends, the personal support workers, nurses and healthcare providers, especially in her later years, for their compassion and care.
