Glen Bowerman Obituary

In Loving Memory of
Glen Coultis Bowerman
May 28, 1932-October 29, 2021

The family of Glen Bowerman are sad to announce his passing at the Manitoulin Health Centre on Friday October 29th 2021 at the age of 89.
Glen was born and raised  in Tehkummah, to Herman and Millie Bowerman on May 28, 1932.
He was the loving brother of Audrey Coultis , Phyllis MacDonald, Phylma McDermid (all predeceased) and is survived by Mamie Ann Bowerman.
Glen had different jobs in Tehkummah before taking a job at the silica quarry in Sheguiandah.  While in Sheguiandah he attended the arena and tripped his future bride while skating; needless to say Kathleen (Bayer) fell for Glen and they married in June 1959.
They had four children, Debra (Jody McKie), Delbert (Christine), Dan (Janice) and Darren (Tara).
He was a very proud grandpa of Ryan, Ben, Danielle, Joshua, Rebecca, Brooke, Morgan and Mark and great Grandpa to Danique, Emilia, Jack, Jack, Anna, Matthew and Kate.
Glen went on to work as an equipment operator for Glen Leeson Haulage in Little Current, then worked for the Town of Little Current (now NEMI) until retirement.
He was one of many volunteers that formed the Howland Fire Department and served as Deputy Fire Chief under Don Garbutt, before becoming Fire Chief (a position he held for many years.)
In his younger days he loved going to dances around the Island, playing guitar at the Sheguiandah hall and playing and singing with friends. He enjoyed getting together with friends and family to go on snowmobiles trips in the winter, ice fishing and ploughing gardens with his tractor in the summer.  He was the go to guy for small engine repairs in the area and loved tinkering with things right up to the end.
He will be missed by family, friends, nephews, nieces, brother in law Roy Bayer (Doris) and his four legged chum Martini from around the corner.

Visitation is Saturday November 6, 2021 from 2 -4 p.m and 6 - 8 p.m. at the Island Funeral Home, Little Current.

Funeral services will be held Sunday November 7, 2021 at 1:00 p.m,

followed by interment at Elmview Cemetery in Sheguiandah.

A get together is being held at the Sheguiandah Seniors hall at 3:00 p.m.
