Chester Corbiere Obituary

In Loving Memory of

Chester James Corbiere

Sunrise June 30, 1958 - Sunset April 11, 2022

With love in our hearts, we said Baamaapii miinwa ga waabmin to Chester James Corbiere, a son, grandson, brother, dad, uncle, cousin, godfather, friend, community member, member of the Anishinaabek nation, and fluent speaker of the Anishinaabe language.

Chester started his Spirit journey at the age of 63 on Monday, April 11, 2022 at the Manitoulin Health Centre – Mindemoya, Ontario, surrounded by the family he had loved so much.

Born to John Francis Xavier Corbiere, known and loved by many as Jack Corbiere and Annie Bebonang Corbiere both predeceased. Chester was sibling to Jeannie Eliza Corbiere (Justin Debassige), Christopher Alexander Corbiere, John William Corbiere (Penny Esquimaux), Elsie Ann Corbiere (Joe Cooper), Lawrence Bernard Corbiere (partner Jennifer Beam). Chester was predeceased by siblings Vincent (one and a half years) and Martha Jane (8 months) and nephew Calvin Abel- Corbiere and great niece Jenna Debassige.

Chester especially loved being a parent to his two boys Mason and Gilbert and his daughter April and loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. As an uncle he shared many moments of laughter, combined with stories of life in M’Chigeeng First Nation, and growing up on Jake’s Hill. Chester was always happy to see his nieces and nephews and greeted them with a big smile a joke and gentle nature. Uncle Chester will be missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great -great nephews.

Chester was an accomplished mechanic and could repair any motor especially Ford cars and trucks. Never very far away was his brother John, it seemed like the two brothers were inseparable, they could often be found under the hood repairing some car late into the evening.

Chester was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. “Chess” loved being outside in the bush, he enjoyed fishing and being out on the land that he grew up on. Chester’s favourite moments were cooking his family feasts of stuffed turkey, mashed potatoes, gravies, and scone on holidays, birthdays, and special celebrations. He had a great sense of humour. He was good at telling stories to make us all laugh and enjoy our time together. Chester, you enjoyed life to the fullest. Thank you for choosing us as your family and friends. Travel well dear Brother, until we laugh together again, baamaapii miinwa ga waabmi go.

Chester will be drummed in by Josh Eshkawkogan upon his arrival at his home 3 pm Thursday.

Opening prayers will be said by Deacon Debbie Ense.

We are asking for the first 3 hours for private family time with Chester.

Chester will rest there until burial on Saturday at the M’Chigeeng Cemetery.

Covid protocols will be implemented.
