You never knew what true laughter was, until you were in a room listening to a joke or story told by Jerry Jonathon. He was given many names; Jello from Grandma Rose, JJ from his Mom, and the infamous J-Bone or Boner. Jerry had a heart of gold, who lit up any room. Jerry loved his family so much and made sure they knew it too. He is the best Uncle, his nieces and nephews always knew they could count on him for love and support through the best times and the tough. He had many roles, being a brother to cousins and friends, and a father-figure to the ones he knew needed it most. Since the beginning, Jerry cherished the presence of his Uncles, and held a special place in the hearts of his Aunties. His love for family, friends and community could not be described as anything else but proud. He was the guy you can call for anything and he’d be there for you. He did not shy away from emotion, and shared the greatest heart to heart conversations. He had a passion for hockey, golf, pool, fastball, guitar, music and oh, could Jerry dance, he made sure you could too, never passing on a night for karaoke. Jerry had strong connections to Anishnaabe culture and language. Wherever Jerry travelled for school or work, he created lasting relationships with professors, peers and colleagues. Jerry was an adventurer, he was a compassionate, caring, kind-hearted man. He was a warrior, a brother and his medicine will live in our hearts forever. Jerry will be reunited with loved family members who have gone before him. Jerry will be deeply missed by all of his family, friends and bingo fans.

Family will gather privately at Jerry’s home 833 Hwy 551 M’Chigeeng, Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Wednesday October 21st, 2020.
Celebration of life Friday October 23, 2020.
Laid to rest at M’Chigeeng Cemetery

Sending my deepest condolences to the Debassige and Beaudin families. Jerry and I went to high school together. He was one of a kind and will always be remembered as a great guy. As adults, we would cross paths every once in awhile and he’d ask about my family and we’d always part ways with a chuckle. He will be missed dearly.

Oh my gosh...my sincere condolences to Robert and his extended family. How tragic and so very young. Uncle Charlie and Aunt Doreen will be there to welcome Jerry with open arms. Cherish the memories and keep them tucked in your heart. They're really not that far away. Look after each other..

I taught Jerry in grade 5. I have so many fond and fun memories of him as a student. That year for the Christmas concert Jerry led his class on stage with memorizing the entire narrative for the poem ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas. He excelled at every challenge and I was blessed to have been his teacher...he will forever be in my heart.

My condolences to all of Jerry's family and friends. I met Jerry in high school and was proud to have called Jerry my friend. He was a very genuine man with the greatest smile and infectious laugh. I always enjoyed seeing him at a function where we'd always have a dance and of course a good laugh. I will definately miss him, but so glad I was lucky enough to know him all these years!

Please accept our deepest condolences. We hope that you will find a measure of comfort in knowing that he was an incredible person who brought much joy and laughter to the lives of others as well as your family. Knowing him was a true blessing, and we will always treasure the special times we spent with him. He certainly touched many lives, and we are devastated that he is no longer with us. Rest in piece my friend.

I can only add to what has already been said about Jerry. He was a student of mine but I always felt he had more to teach me. Just a great guy.
