MACHUM, Michael Otty - In loving memory of Michael Otty Machum, 68 years, of Manitoulin Island, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family Friday morning, September 13th, 2019 at his residence, Honora Bay. He was born in Sudbury on December 22, 1950. He hailed from Copper Cliff, and during his youth he found a love in art. In the early 1970s he took his love of art and went into the Print Making and Textile Art program at Cambrian College. From there he went to NSCAD (Nova Scotia College of Art and Design) to further his education. After attending NSCAD he went to Lethbridge University and got his Bachelors of Fine Arts. He moved to Manitoulin to the family camp, which was bought in 1969, and met his future wife in 1984 at the Anchor Inn. They settled at the Honora Bay Farm, which was originally his family’s camp and became the shepherd of the farm and his sheep.  His accomplishments were many. He was an avid skier and he managed the football/basketball teams at Copper Cliff High School. He was a talented artist who displayed his art at many art shows, and in later years his artistry was showcased in his carpentry. He also loved music and playing the drums, was very knowledgeable about all types of music. His positivity and smile was infectious, he made a profound impact on everybody he met. Mike’s memory was amazing for past events in his life and History in general. He was a huge activist for Human Rights along with many other things. His greatest accomplishment was his family. He is greatly missed by his beloved wife Jennifer (nee Linley) Machum, his daughters, Jessica, Rebeccah (Murad), Savannah (Michael), and his darling granddaughter Molly. Dear brother of Kendal (husband Dennis), Jean (husband Michel), Howard (wife Anne-Marie), Harry (wife Dorothy), and Kenneth (wife Shelley), both predeceased. Cherished son of Gordon and Marian Machum, both predeceased. Will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, friends and fur buddies. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. at the Honora Bay Farm, more details will follow closer to the date. Michael has requested that everyone show up in a piece of camo clothing. Donations can be made to Little Current Fish and Game Club, Mindemoya Health Centre Oncology Program or the Northeast Cancer Centre.

We are so sorry for your loss. Mike was a great friend and will be missed. I learnt many things from him in my youth on the farm especially how to play spoons. Maybe he is playing drums with some of the other musicians that are waiting. Again, our condolences.

Dear Jennifer and everybody. Michael left the world a better place than he found it. That's as good as life gets. I'm sad that he had to go but he's not suffering anymore, and Jeepers I just thought--is he with Chris Tilson? Imagine the reunion!!!
Take care and stay as kind as you're all known to be.

And whoever wrote that obituary did a beautiful job.

Dear Jenn and family,

My heart is breaking for your loss. I will always remember Mike wearing that great grin of his. And how he saved me that Monday night so many years ago with his sketch of the legendary burning boat... and a libation or two. The world will miss his kind soul but I am grateful he is at peace.
