Many years ago I was blessed to work with and receive teachings from Josephine. I still carry them with me all these years later. Your voice and smile will never be forgotten. Your smile represented unconditional love - looking at your picture it brought me right back to that moment - standing in front of you - thank you for that gift.

On behalf of Tecumsehs family in Kettle & Stony Point we extend our deepest condolences to the families of Biidasige Joesphine Mandaumin. Our Hearts, Love and Respect are with you today. Our relationship with Joesphine began through our family's reconnection to the Three Fires Midewiwin Lodge. Joesphine greeted our family with open arms from the moment we met her. Our spirits connected. We soon learned of her strongheartness. There are many ways we can describe leaders, and there are no words that can describe how remarkable, how beautiful Joesphines spirit touched each of us. We supported her work, and shared the moccasin trail left by our Ancestors. The spirit of Tecumseh walked with her, and is with each of you today. We will miss her, and know that we will continue her work. Today we are proud that she will take her rightful place amongst all our relatives, and l envision our relative Tecumseh welcoming her home, and taking her rightful place amongst the council fires, amongst our greatest Chiefs, as the Ogima, Ogitchada Quay that walked amongst us. Should you ever need us, we are over here. Protecting all what she stood for. May you find comfort knowing how much Tecumsehs family loved and respected her, and will always watch over you. Gizawgin

It is with heartfelt sadness that we wish to express our condolences to the family and loved ones of such a gracious and giving woman.
Josephine has left a legacy of gentle strength and grace and our world has been made so much better due to her prescence. We have sincerely lost a very great loving being in Josephine. It is with a heavy heart that we learn that we are not able to attend in person, but are with all of you in heart and spirit. May her legacy continue with all of us who mourn such a great loss.

In this world you moved many spirits with your strong will to keep our waters free from pollution. We must keep this spiritual movement going, and now your spirit oversees this from another world which we see you as our caring and ever loving grandmother. Your spirit will live on in our waters so that must be the reason for our fight for clean water to be moved forward and always taking that message to all who still walk on Mother Earth. Meeweh, meegwetch for your undying love for our waters.

Miigwetch for all you have done.

I met Josephine many times at Ceremonies and during the water walk at Lake Huron many years ago ,
her warm, genuine and spiritual way will be much missed by me and by so many.
She inspired me to have even more respect for Nibi.
I saw her last in the late June of 2013 (unfortunately so long ago) when she could not come to the spring ceremonies in Bad River and I brought her afterwards a gift from the Ceremonies to her home in Thunder Bay where we shared some Nibi and Blueberries.

Please forgive me Josephine that I did not try harder to see you afterwards again. But work seemed so importand and stressful. I often felt and feel connected with you in spirit and thought of you many times ... knowing you were working for the water over there on Turtle Island and I am working for Organic farming in Europe ... Unfortunately there was often this huge Ocean between us ...
but in Spirit we will still be united ... No Ocean nor time or Milage can change that...
at The Lake Huron/Georgian Bay Water walk you once said to me "We might be ahead of our time... the woman of the eighth Fire ..." I will always remember that moment...

Miigwetch Josephine for all the welcoming warm Hugs at Ceremonies and for all you have done for me and so many people as well as for the water that nurtures us all.
My deepest condolences to all your family and friends

Dear Andrew Andrea and family,

I can say that my life has been forever changed because of meeting and learning from Nokomis Josephine. I saw her drag 4 buffalo skulls (while being pieced on her back) at pipestone and she stole my heart. It was love at first sight. Her spirit, her love, her selflessness for our people and for the water is second to none. It was such a blessing and a gift to be able to spend time with her at moondance and at water and women gatherings. My late mother Marie Estelle also thought the world of her. Now they can hang out in the spirit world. Chi- Miigwech to Nokomis Josephine for touching and enriching my life.
