John Ernest McDermid

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Ernie
on Sunday, June 17th, 2018 at the age of 62.

Ernie's love for his wife Catherine and the pride he felt for his sons Cody and Kyle exceeded his passion for gardening, hockey and being a member of the "Hackers".  He had a love of music as many remember him as a DJ at local events and fundraisers.
He was a master craftsman, who took pride in his work and never said no to lending a hand or giving advise.
Ernie was a lifelong resident of Manitoulin Island and has touched many hearts.
He will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Beloved husband of Catherine.
Predeceased by wife Michelle (nee Cadieux).
Proud father of Cody (Rachelle) and Kyle.
Dear son of Blanche McDermid, father Duncan (predeceased).
Loving brother of
Karen Maguire (Russ Tate),
Kathy Wilson (John),
Linda Williamson (Barry),
Fran Cox and
Ed McDermid (Sheila).
Predeceased by brother in law Bernard Maguire.
Will be forever remembered by his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

We are so saddened in Ernie's passing. We so enjoyed the many dinner get togethers we had, snowshoeing on our 100 acres followed by hot dog roasts, playing hockey with Ernie at the Hackers and on Friday afternoons in Prov. and sharing our spaghetti squash with him as Ernie loved them so much. RIP Ernie

Kyle & Catherine: My sincerest sympathy!
KYLE: Summer 2016 I met your dad & Catherine while dining @ your home with my niece Sabrina Legault, her parents, & AJ. Varied serious conversations erupted into laughter. I was impressed how soft spoken yet invested your dad was in your future --as he acknowledged your entrepreneurial business! Your dad constantly looked @ you with warm admiration--that a dad has for his son. He was so proud of your accomplishments, Kyle! Continue expanding your endeavors & always remember how loved you were by dad & mom -who gave you life!
CATHERINE: embellish the love that brought you & Ernie together & the happiness you shared with him & family! May heartfelt memories sustain you...............I send you & Kyle hugs

To Ernie's family,
I'm so sorry to hear about Ernie's death. I first met him in elementary school and I still remember his smiling, friendly face. That's the face I still remember when I think of him now. He was excellent at his work and seemed to know how to fix everything perfectly. When Mom (Mieke Delange) needed any work done on the house, we'd always say that the best thing is to ask Ernie and just wait until he has time to do it. He was always interesting to talk to and I'm so sorry for your loss.

I was so sad to hear of Ernie's death. He was always so wonderful and interesting to talk to. He was interested in so many things, and read so much. I still remember helping him put up our swing set. I always enjoyed it when he was working at Mom's . Mom (Mieke) was always happy to rely on Ernie to fix whatever needed to be done. He was always helpful and very particular in everything he did. He was proud of his work, and of his family. You will all miss him a lot. I hope you find comfort in the thought that so many people cared for him.
