In loving memory of Burt Cooper, who passed peacefully at Health Sciences North in Sudbury with his family by his side.
Burt was born and raised in Mindemoya, the son of Harry and Ludella Cooper. He was a hard-working farmer, milking cows and raising livestock on the family farm.  Burt was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. He loved hunting and fishing, and it was his special talent and passion for the game of hockey as a player, coach and fan that will be remembered by all who knew him. His competitive nature and love of winning extended to any game he ever played, and his sharp wit and ever-present sense of humour will be sadly missed.
A community activist and leader in Central Manitoulin, Burt was proud to serve multiple terms as a municipal councillor. He was a charter member and past-President of the local Lions Club, and he spearheaded many initiatives and projects to preserve historical buildings and memorabilia as a member and past-President of the local Historical Society. His natural gift was his razor-sharp memory, and his ability to remember the events and people in his life endured to his final days.
Burt was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Shirley (Wilkin), in 2003. He was the much beloved father of Sandra Olfert (Bill), Marilyn Ford (Paul) and Randy Cooper (Terri).
Proud grandfather of Stacey Lewis (Wayne Hinrichs), Carrie Budgell (Trevor), Sherry Patterson (Blair), Chris Ford (Erin), Paula Ford (Derek Butler), Thomas and Justin Cooper. Also a proud great-grandfather to Brandon, Braydy, Kyle, Kamryn, Arlo, Lochlan, Leif, Scotia, and Quinn.
Survived by his brother Don Cooper (Gertrude). Pre-deceased by Lena, Jack, Nellie Thomas (Gordon), Jean Harfield (Bernie), Leonard (Betty), Alvern Nighswander (Stuart), and Max (Ellen),
Burt will also be missed by his dear friend Millie McCormick of Espanola, and her family.

Family and friends will gather at the Mindemoya  Missionary Church
on Thursday, May 31, 2018.
Visitation between 11 am and noon, followed by a memorial service.
Burial service will take place at the Mindemoya Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Stadnyk and staff at the Mindemoya Red Cross Hospital for many years of excellent care, in addition to the numerous medical practitioners and staff who attended to our loved one during his final days with us. Donations to Mindemoya Hospital Auxilliary would be greatly appreciated.

Burt always had a smile for ya. I have fond memories growing up. Every time dad and i would visit the farm. Most often the visit took place in the barn, cause Burt always loved looking after his beloved cows. He loved to golf too.. I remember he Don and myself teamed up one year at the Harold Cooper Memorial, back in 97. We always had fun! My dad really loved Burt, that's for sure. My condolences to Sandra, Marilyn, Randy and Don and the whole family, sorry for your lose.

Here are a couple of Dad's favourite verses.

2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.”

Thought our words can do little, we hope our thoughts and prayers will be a support to you at this time.
We wish we could be there, but unfortunately, due to other circumstance, we will not be able to attend.

Our condolences to the family. He lived a wonderful life. The time that he spent at our hunting camp in his mid 80's was proof of his zest for life. He told stories of the family and many of my dad that I never heard before. Thanks for the memories.

Bert Cooper was a friend and friend of the Shearer family on Big Lake. We knew Bert since 1974 when my parents built on Big Lake. He was just a nice man and knowledgeable about so many things. Our fondest memories were having Bert and Shirley over for lunch.
Our prayers to the family for strength and healing. I know Bert is reunited with Shirley in heaven and this is a wonderful thing. That does not diminish our grief at Bert's passing. God Bless you Bert!

To my dear friend Carrie and family,
I will always remember your grandpa . I will never forget the warmth and kindness I felt when visiting their home on the island. I especially loved talking to your grandpa about the fact that we were both Islanders!! My sincerest condolences to you and all the family.

To Bert’ s family. We want to say we thought the world of Bert. He was a leader, a model, and if we didn’t live up to some of his expectations he would gently let us know. Those of us who live on Big Lake, particularly the BL Dam Rd, will especially remember and miss him.
He was an early leader of our BLPOA and he was always supportive of our efforts as an organization. Personally I will always remember Bert, Shirley and Blue - on the veranda or .... at Big Lake.

So sorry to hear about Uncle Burt. A full life with lots of memories to share.
I remember those days when he was my bus driver, he wanted everyone to behave so he always looked serious but would give me a big grin when I hopped on.
My deepest condolences.
