Dear Jack, Robin, Julie, Jeremy and Families,
Linda B called to tell me of Jean's death. She said she knew we were close and always kept in touch. True, on our birthdays and at Christmas, we caught up on our old friendship.
Jean, Kitty and I shared baby duck wine, chocolate chip cookies and many stories and chuckles during the time I lived on Manitoulin Island. We often were the three musketeers on McGregor Bay at Kitty and Bob's island home.
Recently I read one of Julie's heart felt posts on my daughter's Facebook. Here I learned that Jean was having a rough time in hospital, but was having signs of progress and hoping to be moved from ICU to a ward bed. The day I read this I wrote and mailed a card and note to my island BFF and wished her better, stronger days ahead.
My card will not have arrived yet and I am very sad it will not be held in Jean's hands. I hope, somehow, she always knew the words that come from my heart.
Jean and I could always pick up the pieces whenever we corresponded and when we last spoke to each other. It is just that way with old friendships.
Julie, your Mom was so happy to have you back home, on the Island. Take comfort in that you were there for her.
Robin and Jeremy, I know Jean loved anytime she could visit you and be with you and her grandchildren. Her grandchildren, the lights of her life. She adored you, you brought her so much happiness.
Jack, I am so sorry of your loss of a beautiful wife and life long companion.
Jean's passing has left a huge hole in many many hearts. How do we justify the loss of a dear wife, loving mother and grandmother, friend and exceptional nurse like Jean? Impossible.
I remember my Island BFF's infectious laugh, her generous spirit, her loving way as I type my long message to you.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of many forever.
Rest in peace dear friend, Jean. ❤️
With love and hugs to each one of you,

Derek Graham
